2013 Chili Cook-Off Raises $5,000 for Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio
With 25 different flavors of chili, a robust crowd, and visits from president emeritus E. Gordon Gee and Brutus Buckeye, The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy Chili Cook-Off raised more than $5,000 for the Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio.
The Ohio State College of Pharmacy Chili Cook-Off is an annual fundraiser organized by students of the college to raise money for local charitable organizations. The event was first created back in 1997, with this being its 16th year.
This year’s proceeds will benefit the Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio, a local pharmacy that provides counseling, education and medications to central Ohio residents who are uninsured or cannot afford prescription co-pays. The Charitable Pharmacy has served more than 2,900 patients since it opened its doors.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to be the beneficiary of this year’s cook-off,” said Allan Zaenger, executive director of the Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio. “Thanks as well to all of the efforts of the faculty, staff and students – who’ve given their time and gifts to support this event and the pharmacy.”
The Chili Cook-Off took place on Nov. 8 from 5-9 p.m. Activities at the event included tasting 25 different chili recipes, getting taken pictures with Brutus and Ohio State cheerleaders, meeting E. Gordon Gee, playing children’s games, offering free health screenings, and participating in a silent auction and raffle contest.
“I wish this event continued success in helping organizations in central Ohio meet the needs that persist in our community,” said Zaenger.
