National Drug Facts WeekThe National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has announced The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy’s Generation Rx Initiative as a signature partner for National Drug Facts Week (NDFW).  The event is a national health observance that will take place this year from January 27 to February 2, 2014. NIDA, part of the National Institutes of Health, developed National Drug Facts Week to get the science out to teens about the effects of drug use on the brain and body through community-based events and activities to help shatter their myths about drug abuse and addiction.

As a partner, Generation Rx is planning activities in the Central Ohio area for NDFW. An integral part of these events will be the Generation Rx Lab at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI).  Since 2012, the Lab has offered visitors to COSI hands-on experiments that teach basic science concepts about medicines in a fun and interactive environment. Details of activities will be posted online at go.osu.edu/generationrx as they become available.

In addition to formal partnerships, NIDA encourages individuals and groups to get involved:

The Generation Rx Initiative began at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in 2007 as a program to enhance medication safety and combat the increasing misuse and abuse of prescription drugs through educational prevention. Partnering with the Cardinal Health Foundation, the program has created toolkits aimed at specific audiences that are available to the public at no cost.
